The 2023 Election will also include:

PROPOSITION - Municipal Sales and Use Tax for Street Maintenance

"The reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the City of Clarendon to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repairs for municipal streets."

First approved by voters at the May 2019 Election - expires December 2023

 

DEADLINES FOR FILING FOR THE MAY 2023 GENERAL ELECTION ARE JANUARY 18 - FEBRUARY 17TH, 2023.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS PER ELECTION CODE:

Election Code - Chapter 141 - Candidacy for Public Office (Section 141.001)

  • be a United States citizen;
  • be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
  • have not to have been determined by a final judgement of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:                                   
  1. totally mentally incapacitated; or
  2. partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;     
  • have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
  • have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the deadline for filing an application for a place on the ballot (for a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate's name is written in);
  • be a registered voter in the territory from which the office is elected as of the date of the filing deadline for a candidate's place on the ballot (for a write-in candidate, as of the date of the election).
