Waterline Repair Update
8/1/2024
On Wednesday, July 31st, a 2" waterline behind J&W Lumber burst. The City crews along with Greenbelt Water Authority crews worked to stop the flow. A boil water notice was issues and is still in effect. We do not know if there will be any further interruption of water service but will do our best not to. The city crews are continuing to work on the problem and we will keep you updated.

On July 15, 2024, Clarendon City Hall received a phone call that near the 1500 to 1600 block of West 7th Street of a racoon that was showing possible signs of rabies. The racoon was taken to the local veterinarian to be sent for testing. On July 22, 2024, results came back positive for rabies.
Garbage Rate Increase

Per the Franchise Agreement, Waste Connections is able to increase or decrease the garbage service rates to refelct the Consumer Price Index, with a 90 day notice to the City. The rate increase was brought before the City Council at the regular scheduled meeting on June 13, 2024, where Waste Connections did present all required documents to support the rate increase. The City Council approved a 4% garbage service rate increase by ordinance at the July 11, 2024 regular scheduled meeting. This rate increase will become effective on the August 20th - September 20th billing cycle, invoiced October 1, 2024. The current contract with Waste Connections will expire on September 26, 2025, at this time the City will go out for bids for garbage service. Welcome Alderman Ashlee Estlack!

During the regular monthly City Council meeting on Thursday, June 13th, City Council members voted in Ashlee Estlack to fill the position left vacant when former Mayor Pro Tem Larry Jeffers did not run for re-election. She will have to run in the next election, in May 2025, for a one year term. Ashlee is a third generation council member and is very active in the community. Thank you for you willingness to serve on the Clarendon City Council!

5.9.24 City Council Meeting

The May 9, 2024 Regular City Council Meeting will be held at the Mulkey Theater at 5:30 p.m.. The Mulkey Theater is located at 108 Kearney Street in the Downtown Business District. The agenda for the meeting can be accessed under the Government tab, then Meeting Agendas & Minutes. All Citizens and welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings of your City Council.
